Human Terrain Support
Tundra provides Human Terrain Support to military operations by using a network of trained, local resources and mentors who provide cultural interpretations of events occurring within specific areas.
To be effective, planning any operation requires insight into cultural, political, social and religious factors. Information on social groups, their leaders and their decision making process is crucial to success. Tundra can provide Human Terrain support teams consisting of managing staff and local resources to assist in providing valid and objective information to the organizations that require it.
Tundra uses a mentorship program where local personnel are recruited, vetted, screened and trained by a Tundra Human Terrain Support Manager (HTSM). Once the teams are trained and become operational, they are deployed into specific areas to assist in bringing knowledge about the local population into a coherent and usable framework. All local teams are managed by an HTSM, who acts as a mentor to the local teams and the direct liaison to the tactical and operational military or government organization that requires the information. The HTSM also provides continuous training, mentorship, skill building, management and direct oversight of the local resources and support assets.
Tundra provides regionally-focused mission specific Human Terrain Support Teams that bring capabilities to organizations that do not already exist or need additional local support and/or resources. The Tundra teams deploy as trained, organized teams and can be attached to or support any operational unit.
The HTSM or "mentor" is a former military Tundra employee with a strong background in both open source and field research who can provide relevant human terrain information that can be used to support the planning and assessment of operations at any level.
